Using the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) to predict Key Stage 1 achievement in children across the Bradford district.
Lay Summary
Previous research has used the Born in Bradford longitudinal birth cohort to understand how the “good level of development” outcome from the EYFSP can predict educational achievement at the end of Key Stage 1 (KS1). The authors found this was indeed the ccase, with children who reached the good level of development were more likely to perform at “expected” across reading, writing, maths, and science. Analyses also investigated how this differed by children’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) status. The present study aims to replicate this study using data from over 18,000 children across the Bradford district to investigate if these relationships still hold true in a population-based, rather than cohort-based, sample. Specifically, the authors will explore whether reaching good level of development during early years predicts academic achievement at KS1 and whether this is impacted by SEN status. It also aims to study whether reaching good level of development predicts SEN status.
