Mapping Potential Vulnerability Indicators in Schools Data across Bradford, CY P03 23 05

Lay Summary

Previous research conducted using the Connected Bradford Research Database has demonstrated how educational administrative data may offer effective means to identify structural inequality. This project will extend this research to examine geospatial patterns of a range of potential indictors of vulnerability recorded in Department for Education administrative datasets across the Bradford region. The data scientist will analyse geospatial patterns of ‘Early Year Foundation Stage Profile’ (EYFSP) measures, unauthorised absences, exclusions, looked after children, and children in need – comparing and contrasting geographies (LSOAs) associated with both schools and pupil home locations.

This research will reveal important insights into different problems facing young people in different communities and support broader place-based research which seek to develop of targeted and tailored upstream interventions designed to reduce harm associated with various vulnerabilities. In addition, the project will inform multiple future studies conducted by the ESRC Vulnerability and Policing Research Centre to understand vulnerability conditions and responses with the ultimate aim of building the evidence base to support new, integrated and innovative approaches to harm reduction that address the needs of vulnerable groups.
