Can loneliness be modelled? Investigation of consumer loneliness models using Agent-Based Modelling, CY P03 23 01

Lay Summary

In a climate of social distancing and emphasis on handling most activities online and in isolation rather than in person and in company, we are dealing with increases in mental illness and a deficit in treating mental health. Almost 80% of respondents of the Community Life Survey in 2021 reported feeling lonely to some extent, with almost 4 million reporting often being overburdened by feelings of loneliness. This situation is burdening the NHS and connected organizations. This research aims to model loneliness based on existing data and reports regarding patients’ mental and physical health, their lifestyles, and social connections.
