Triangulating Police and Health Data, CY P03 25 03
Lay Summary
In recent years, the scope and nature of police involvement with people with mental ill-health (PMIH) is perceived to have expanded significantly. Previous research conducted through Connected Bradford has demonstrated that police are involved in responding to a highly diverse range of crime and non-related problems occurring across the district. To illustrate, in 2021-2022 one in every 25 incidents attended by West Yorkshire Police (WYP) were related to mental health concerns.
Previous research has shown that triangulating health and policing administrative data can provide unique insights capable of supporting greater understanding of such complex problems. Driven by ongoing discussions with West Yorkshire Police Mental Health Partnerships and Early Action team and ICB colleagues across West Yorkshire, this project seeks to better understand how the measures of mental health related police response can be triangulated to area level measures derived from varying health data sources to support a more holistic understanding of mental-health related need across the district.
