Looked After Children, CY P03 24 06
Lay Summary
Bradford Children’s Trust in partnership with the Bradford Local authority have approached the team to request help in analysing the data associated with Looked After Children (LAC).
LAC are the canonical example of vulnerable young people needing supporrt and there is evidence linking children in care to increased risks of criminal justice involvement, diagnosable mental health disorders, and having special educational needs. LAC constitute a major drain on the Local Authority budget in common with many other Authorities where service provision is at breaking point. Our project will identify patterns within various public service administrative datasets (health, education, etc), and current configurations of service provision across the Bradford District.
The work will build on previous projects conducted as part of the ESRC Vulnerability and Policing Futures Research Centre. We will explore a range of indicators across public service data sets to increase understanding of intersections between public services with LAC.
Research priorities will be coproduced with City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council and the Children’s Trust with the aim of helping our public service providers to better understand the trajectories of LAC in Bradford. Insights drawn from analyses will be fed back to these services to ensure evidence-based support for LAC where it is most needed.
