MHST Evaluation, CY P03 24 05
Lay Summary
Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) are a new service delivered in schools to meet the growing mental health needs of children and adolescents. Their function is to improve the mental health of young people by helping schools develop good policy, delivering low grade therapies, and referring to other services those with the greatest need. MHSTs have been rolled out over the last few years to include about half of all schools in Bradford and Craven. At this stage, however, there is no statistical evidence to show MHSTs are effective at improving the mental health of young people. This evaluation will combine data provided by the NHS on MHST delivery in schools, with connected Yorkshire data, to see whether there is an improvement in outcomes among those students who attend schools with an MHST in place.
