NEET_1 Early Education Assessments, CY P09 23 04

Lay Summary

Previous research from the Born in Bradford team (Atkinson et al, 2022) has indicated that early academic attainment metrics, namely the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP), can be used to predict later academic attainment and those at risk of requiring SEN support. Recent work from Connected Bradford (Warburton et al, in preparation) extended this to understanding associations with later NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training) status, and found that academic attainment between Key Stages 1-4 partially mediate this relationship. Given that the EYFSP is made up of a number of key areas that children should meet, it may be that certain components are more predictive of different outcomes. For example, non-academic abilities like social skills might more directly influence the likelihood of later becoming NEET than they do intervening academic attainment. This project would investigate whether different components of the EYFSP differentially predict later life outcomes.
