Paediatric Diabetes, CY P03 25 09
Lay Summary
Being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at a young age has potentially severe consequences for health. As a result, preventing the development of type 2 diabetes in young people is important. However, the number of children and young people who are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes is increasing. Â Currently type 2 diabetes is not very well researched in young people and there is no formal method for screening or identifying young people at risk before they enter the clinical services. More information is needed and existing data sets such as Connected Bradford and the data that clinical services hold provide an opportunity understand the condition further and start to build a profile of these young people as they enter the service as well as their visits to health services such as GPs or A&E just before they are admitted.
This study hopes to use existing data from Connected Bradford and the clinical team to better understand type 2 diabetes in young people. It aims to link these data sources to provide a profile for children and young people as they are admitted into the diabetes health services, as well as their visits to health services such as GPs or hospitals prior to being admitted. Â This study also hopes to use this profile along with looking back at previous health history to identify risk factors for developing Type 2 diabetes as a young person. It is hoped this information can then be used to identify young people at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, with the idea of then being able to prevent them developing it in the future.
