Your voice matters

People across Yorkshire & Humber have helped shape how the Secure Data Environment works. Their feedback guides the safeguards we put in place, the principles we follow, and the research we support.

On this page, you can find out what people have shared with us, how we’re responding, and what changes have already been made.

Building Trust Through Transparency

At the Y&H SDE, we are committed to complete transparency with public and the organisations providing data:

  • Regular reporting to your GP and local data providers on all data usage and analysis outputs
  • We encourage closer collaboration between health and care data teams, and researchers, allowing them to share techniques and methods to translate high-quality research into practice
  • We are committed to ensure that everyone is fully informed about how their data is used. Therefore, we are proactively engaging with public to help us developing the Y&H SDE and improve healthcare research in our region and beyond.

Questionnaire

We’re running an ongoing survey to hear directly from the public and keep shaping how health data is used for research and innovation. Your views help us stay connected to what matters most, understand concerns around this complex topic, and make sure we put the right safeguards in place.

The questionnaire will take 10 minutes to complete, just follow the link below.  And if you would like this questionnaire in another format, please email yhsde.nhs.uk

Public Advisory Group

Public Advisory Group (PAG)

Members of the public play a vital role in guiding our work. As part of our governance, they help shape decisions and influence how our programme develops, ensuring everything we do delivers real public benefit.

Their insight keeps us grounded, challenges our thinking, and helps make sure our approach reflects the needs, values, and expectations of the people we serve.

Young Persons’ Advisory Group

The Young People’s Advisory Group is a new group of young people aged 16–24 from across Yorkshire and Humber. The group’s members will share their experiences – such as using NHS services or accessing health information – and their views on data privacy, and how they feel about their information being used for research. The group will help to make sure young people are properly represented in important conversations.

Their work will support NHS staff and researchers to ensure young people’s voices are heard and reflected in decisions.
